May, born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1969, grew up during time of civil war, turmoil and instability that kept its imprint on her art narrative. She received her MFA in Painting & Drawing from Boise State University, Idaho. Currently residing in the Bay Area, California she considers the creative process of art making as an act of resistance to identity politics. She uses autobiography as an analytical tool to reconcile the past with the present, interpret the living experience and project on the future. Her multi-media work which includes book art, prints, paintings, drawings and installations, is conceptual, process driven and often takes on an abstracted form that embodies a tension between constraint and freedom always with an underlying sense of hope.
May says “when you live through civil war an inner voice inhabits you and becomes the narrator of condensed narrations… Her prints have been exhibited and included in collections at venues in The U.S.A, Paris, Estonia, China, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Germany and Bethlehem.
